For cutlery, dishwasher suitability primarily depends on the base material, and subsequently on the processing. Sterling silver and silver-plated cutlery can be cleaned in the dishwasher, but scratches can easily form on the soft surface. We also point out that the detergent for these cutlery items must not contain citric acid. Special problems can arise with old silver cutlery in connection with high temperatures in the dishwasher.
